Below you
will find links to over 40 different triads tests.
Each
of these tests contains 10 questions and at the end of each test
you will be given a mark and a percentage. Feel free to repeat
each of the tests as many times as you wish.
In
this advanced section, you will be tested on 6 different triads
- major, minor, augmented, diminished, sus 2 and sus 4. These are
the same as for the intermediate section however, all the triads
will be played harmonically (notes together). The ear training
questions are selected at random and can be in any key.

Try
and separate the 3 notes in your mind. Sing them from lowest to highest,
then the tips below will help to name them.
To
help your ear training development, listen to the triads below.
To recognise Major and Minor triads you can use the songs given. To recognise
Augmented and Diminished triads use the following ear training method:
The first 2 notes of a Major and Augmented triad are the same, so if we hear,
for example, the notes C and E, we would be expecting a G to complete the Major
triad. If we get the G then we know it is Major. If we do not get a G then
the triad must be Augmented.
In the same way, the first 2 notes of Minor and Diminished triads are the same.
After the first 2 notes have been played we will be expecting a 5th to complete
the Minor triad. If we don't get this then the triad must be Diminished.
For sus
2 and sus 4 triads, see song selection below:
