Below you will find links to over 40 different ear training scales tests. Each of these tests contains 10 questions and at the end of each aural test you will be given a mark and a percentage. Feel free to repeat each of the tests as many times as you wish. In
this intermediate section, you will be tested on seven different
scales - major scale, natural minor scale, major pentatonic scale,
minor pentatonic scale, blues scale, harmonic minor and melodic
minor scales. For more information about 7th Chords please click HERE hint: The Blues scale contains the notes - 1, b3, 4, b5, 5, b7, 8(1). The only difference between this scale and the minor pentatonic scale is the addition of the flattened 5th note (the blue note). This note changes the scale dramatically and make it very easy to distinguish. The harmonic minor scale has the notes - 1, 2, b3, 4, 5, b6, 7, 8(1). Compared to a natural minor scale, the harmonic minor has a sharpened 7th note. This makes the scale sound 'Middle Eastern'. It is quite a distinctive scale because of the sharpened 7th and the sound may remind you of the music from Disney's Aladdin. The melodic minor scale is similar to the harmonic minor scale but it has a sharpened 6th - the notes are - 1, 2, b3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8(1) ascending. When descending the scale reverts to a natural minor scale (the addition of the flattened 6th and 7th). This change make the melodic minor scale very distinctive.
