Aural Workshop 7th Chords

Below you will find links to over 40 different ear training tests using 7th chords and 6th chords.

Each of these ear training tests contains 10 questions and at the end of each test you will be given a mark and a percentage. Feel free to repeat each of the tests as many times as you wish.

In this advanced section, you will be tested on 9 different 4 note chords - major 7th, dominant 7th, minor 7th, half diminished 7th, diminished 7th, augmented 7th, major 6th, minor 6th and minor major 7th.
The questions are selected at random and can be in any key.

Below is a table that helps you to categorize each of the chords and should help you work out which chord you are hearing. Try and work out the group first, then narrow it down to the specific chord you can hear.

Group	Distinction
Major 7th Dominant 7th Major 6th	Each of these chords begins with a major triad. The top note is the only one that different. Major 7th has a 7th, dominant 7th has flat 7th and Major 6th has a 6th.
Minor Major 7th Minor 7th Minor 6th	Each of these chords begins with a minor triad. The minor major 7th is topped with a 7th, the minor 7th has a flat 7th and the minor 6th has a 6th.
Half Diminished Diminished 7th	These two chords both begin with a diminished triad. The Half diminished then finished with a note one semitone higher than the diminished 7th
Augmented 7th	1, 3, #5, b7 Sounds like the opening chord of 'The Sound of Music' and 'I do like to be beside the Seaside'
